'Pink Broomstick® Rotation Stretch: Rehabilitation Exercise for Breast Cancer Surgery'

'Plan to begin this exercise program as soon as your physician gives you permission. When you begin these exercises, you may find that you tire easily and that there is some discomfort as you attempt to do them. However, continue to do them to the point of slight discomfort but not until it becomes painful. Work at your own pace and do these exercises on a regular basis. If you experience a sharp increase in pain or swelling, consult your physician immediately. If you continue to have problems with your motion and strength for 6-8 weeks after surgery, please contact your physician. Rotation Stretch: 1. Place your affected hand, palm down, on top of your hip holding onto one end of the pink broomstick. 2. Hold the other end of the pink broomstick with your other hand. 3. Keeping your affected upper arm in place, use the pink broomstick to assist your forearm to rotate away from your body keeping your elbow bent at a 90 degree angle. (If you had surgery on both breasts, repeat exercise on the other side.) 4. Hold for a count of 5 and slowly return to the starting position. The end goal of the rotation stretch is to touch the back of your wrist to the floor.'
