'Neha Agarwalla is the coach and co-owner of 303 Crossfit Drive which was started three and half years ago with her partner Vishist Kapoor. In this video, she takes us through her journey as a fitness coach and challenges involved being a woman in this field. First day at gym The first time she walked into a gym was with the objective to lose weight and become thinner, but a day in crossfit training changed the initial objective entirely, and her goal diversified to become stronger and fitter and to be better every single day. And since that day, she has never stopped. What happens when women lift heavy weight? She clears out the existent myth about weightlifting leading to bulky and manly body. She takes her own example of weightlifting for six years regularly with high protein intake but still doesn’t have bulky muscle. She also adds that, the society demands a particular image of women to be slim and beautiful. In fact, she emphasises that weightlifting makes one feel good and confident about oneself. When she started her journey Being a new coach and coaching a class of boys who probably must have been trained longer than she is, she fought through self-doubt but eventually with constant focus and learning everyday she became more competent. She adds a very interesting point saying, it’s not about gender, but more about how knowledgeable a person is. Journey as a fitness coach Among other challenges she talks about how she has been a victim of Instagram sexism, comments on how she looks too manly or a girl shouldn’t be lifting weight. But her principle to deal with such trolls is to simply ignore them. The  worst comment she received on Instagram was that she has excessive testosterone in her body and that she wouldn’t be able to give birth. But at the same time she has been very appreciated and encouraged by many. She says if a guy has problem with her girlfriend weight lifting, that’s the guy’s insecurity  speaking and he has serious masculinity issue which need to be dealt with. She is always excited to work with women and loves training them. She says it excites her to see women wanting to weightlift up to their potential. Best career advice received To keep educating oneself and to never stop building one’s knowledge is a career advice she thoroughly follows. She makes a very powerful statement saying one should negate gender away and constantly push oneself. She says, being a woman, challenges in this industry are certain but if you keep going at it, you will get better and one should never stop trying and learning new things.
